Going to the hospital

This post was supposed to appear before the one titled "Its a Boy (2)", sorry for the confusion!

Here is Sarah on September 4, 2008. We did not know that this was going to be the day before Luke was born, but as it turns out, it was.
Baby Luke was born on 09/05/08 at 3:16 pm. Ryan came home from work at 2:08 pm and we go to the hospital at 2:30. We barely gave Dr. Samuelson enough time to get there and get his scrubs on, Sarah pushed a few times and then he came. "It's a boy!" Ryan declared.
Here is Luke tipping the scales at 6 lb, 11.2 oz (3040 grams). He was 20.5 inches (52.1 cm).
This picture was taken before we knew anything was wrong. Notice the purple lips. He was not getting enough oxygen and was having trouble breathing, so away he went - eventually ending up in the intensive care unit (NICU) for ten days with a respiratory infection.

Sarah finally gets to hold Luke on September 8. He is off of his respirator and doing better!

Here is a video of Brandon saying "Luve you" the day before Luke was born!

It's a Boy (2)!

Baby Luke comes home from the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) after a ten day stay, he is okay and has no cords attached!
Baby Luke is home for the first time, 9:38 pm on Monday 09-15-08

Brandon is excited to meet his little brother, and promptly poked him in the eye - then kissed him on the head.

New update

Sorry it has been so long! Two months have gone by and lots of fun things have happened.
If you didn't know, Brandon will be a big brother! We are expecting our second child on my birthday, September 19! I think that's a pretty good time to be born! (We will not find out the gender until then, sorry :)

Some other fun things that happened for the first time:
Brandon got his first haircut.

Brandon helps out with some chores, he likes to feed Wubes and help with the gardening,

Brandon goes fishing, (more like throwing rocks in the water)

Brandon stayed over the weekend with grandma and grandpa Stewart...

...so Mom and Dad could get away for a weekend in Manitou Springs...

and finally, one of the most exciting things that has happened since March 2 happened the very next day - March 3, Brandon has a new cousin. Andi Novak was born to Clint and Abby Novak (Sarah's sister). More pictures at novakancy.blogspot.com!

Our trip to Florida:
We knew flying with an active fourteen month old baby would be a challenge, so we brought about 17 different toys, objects, snacks, etc. to entertain Brandon. Well, about 17 minutes after we boarded the plane, we had not even taken off yet and we exhausted all of our distractions. I have chosen not to remember the rest of our two flights (through Minneapolis, isn't that on the way to Quebec?), but I know we eventually made it to Jacksonville, Florida and everyone was much happier when we walked out of the plane and it was 75 degrees! We went to visit our friends the Wyss's and their newly adopted son, Asher.
Asher is very excited to tell us about the stick he found in the grass, Brandon is still trying to figure out how the grass got greener and all the snow went away.
One day we went to the butterfly pavilion in Gainesville and Brandon is pointing out the Japanese longwing butterfly to us. There were thousands of colorbuterflies to see.
Sarah gives a little snack to Brandon and Asher.

The Beach! We took a trip to the coast just south of St.Augustine and Brandon loved the beach.

Brandon would crawl out to the waves and just keep going if we didn't stop him, he wasn't afraid!
Even though the water wasn't really that warm, it didn't bother Brandon

NUDE BEACH! Brandon gets the sand washed off.
